Player Vs. Player Glitch

Yesterday I believe, I was hanging around with my friend and so we decided to do some PvP.
When I used some skills on him and I attacked him he got damaged. However, when he attacked me it did not damage me.??? Can someone please tell me why this occurred?

Probably your distance was too far. Try attacking him from behind.

Certain skills wont work in PvP, such as map attacks. (Dragon Roar, Genesis, etc..)
